Physics with Wilfried Sommer (D) and Jayesh Narasimhulu (IND)
in the beginning the focus is on the relationship between grade 7 and grade 9. “What is the tuning fork doing while it sounds?” is the point of departure in Grade 7 to connect movement and sound, and to understand the concept of frequency. In grade 9 the acoustics of grade 7 are picked up and used in electric circuits. We will look at how to develop an understanding of telephone circuits, dealing with electricity in a phenomenological way.
We will also consider optics connecting grade 8 and grade 12. The difference between a ray model of light and a phenomenological description using optical pathways as geometrical tools will be discussed. The freedom to use geometrical structures or operators as elements of a description and as structures with agency in a model will be part of the peer communication, leading to a contextual approach to the atom.

Wilfried Sommer’s professional work has its focus where University and High School meet: He is a full professor of school education with an emphasis on phenomenological methods of teaching at Alanus University, Alfter, and a High School teacher in physics at Steiner Waldorf School Kassel. Phenomenological approaches to optics and doing physics experiments as performance art are his research areas in subject related methodology. Additionally he focuses on the role of embodiment for cognitive teaching and learning processes.
Jayesh Narasimhulu, currently working at Abhaya School in Hyderabad, is a Waldorf math and science teacher and has also taught and conducted many lessons outside school classrooms. Transdisciplinary lessons in learning spaces beyond the school campuses have been his forte. His off-campus lessons in various parts of the world are Oceanography, Geomorphology and Boat Building & Engines. He has also been involved in organising and teaching many teacher education programs for upper primary and high school teachers and has taught combined high school classes in Australian and Indian schools.
