Becoming a Better Me

Performing Arts with Angie Foster and David Sloan (US)

How can teacher/directors coax the very best out of their student/actors through exploration, movement, and play?

How can one possibly mount a dramatic production within the time constraints of most Waldorf schedules?

How can clowning become an invaluable tool for young people, not only to enhance their acting skills, but to strengthen their confidence and courage to meet daily challenges?

How can drama and clowning be employed even in academic classroom settings?

In these workshops, our two presenters will share overviews of these two performing arts, while also inviting participants to engage in a variety of exercises as experientially as the medium will allow.

David Sloan has been teaching humanities in Waldorf schools for over four decades.  After graduating from Harvard College, he received his Waldorf teacher training at Emerson College in England, and an MFA in Poetry from the University of Southern Maine’s Stonecoast Program.  A long-time faculty member at Green Meadow Waldorf School in New York, he also helped to found two other high schools: Shining Mountain Waldorf School in Boulder, CO, and Maine Coast Waldorf School (then Merriconeag) in Freeport, ME.

Angie Foster is a clowning facilitator, drama teacher, director, and actress. She trained as a classical actress at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.  In 2004 she began her two-year training as a clowning facilitator with Vivian Gladwell and is currently a member on the team of Nose to Nose of North America.  She has been teaching and directing plays in 8th-12th  grades at Kimberton Waldorf School for the past 25 years, continuing to discover the transformative possibilities for students through storytelling and drama.
